Job Description Community Support Worker

Purpose of position
To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of our service users in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence. Care provided by support workers is expected to include care that would reasonably be given by members of the service user’s family and is not to include tasks that would normally be expected to be undertaken by a trained nurse. CareHomes Stoke Ltd expects all of its employees to work to the highest standards as set out in its policies and procedures.

Principal Responsibilities
1. To adhere to CareHomes Values
2. To assist service users who need help with getting up in the morning, dressing, undressing, washing, bathing and using the toilet.
3. To help the service user with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence and help in the use of care aids and personal equipment.
4. To care for service users who are temporarily sick and needing, for example, minor dressings, bed care, assisting with feeding.
5. To help care for terminally ill service users.
6. To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of the service users through talking to them, escorting them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations.
7. To make and change beds; tidy rooms; do light domestic duties and empty commodes.
8. To inspect launder and mend where necessary service users clothing.
9. To set tables and trays; serve meals; assist in feeding service users who may need help; prepare meals and light snacks; wash up dishes leaving the service users home in a clean and tidy state.
10. You may be required to answer doors, phones and greet visitors in the service user’s home following our strict policies and procedures.
11. To read care plans; rotas supported by electronic devise; reports with full understanding. To write in care plans, diaries and reports accurately and concisely. To take part in service users meetings and reviews.
12. To attend all scheduled team meetings, training events and activities, to be conscious of renewal dates.
13. To perform such other duties as may be reasonably required.
14. To report to your seniors or mangers or electronically any significant changes in the health or circumstances of a service user.
15. To actively encourage and enable service users to remain as independent as possible.
16. To comply with CareHomes Stoke Ltd’s policies and procedures at all times.

Summary

We are seeking to recruit an experienced Support Worker to work in small Adult Learning Disability homes in and around Stoke-On-Trent, the majority of these homes are on major bus routes so there is no requirement to drive. We can offer you weekly pay, holiday pay (12% of hourly pay), a weekly rota supplied in advance based on your availability and the opportunity to expand your experience and knowledge.

As a Support Worker for Cream Health Care, your duties will include:

• Providing Support on a one to one basis
• Facilitating community access and appointments
• Personal care and manual handling as required
• Assisting at meal times and prompting with Medication etc

We are looking for people with recent relevant experience as a Support Worker, Personal Assistant or Carer providing personal care, to work shifts an ongoing flexible basis. An enhanced DBS will be required for this role.

The shifts available are Earlies, Lates and Nights and you would be able to choose which you worked, around your availability. We are happy to work with any availability although we cannot offer school hours due to the shift patterns of the homes that we work with.

The homes are all homely and well run and they vary in size although typically there would be between 4 and 6 service users, all of whom would have different needs and abilities. The homes are easily commutable from Stoke, Tunstall, Burslem, Longton, Hanley, Penkridge and Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
